![]() ![]() ![]() However, there's tons of continuity between the two games with a lot of recurring characters and locations, so if you enjoy Gothic 2 you'll probably appreciate it even more going back to see how it all started. Gothic 2 has a lot of mechanical improvements and overall greater breadth and depth of gameplay, but G1 has a better story and more original setting/atmosphere, so it's worth it to play for those reasons alone. It's actually a little weird (not very much so though), that you get a few small quests in the later chapters of Gothic II, if you ask me. ![]() At that point there's nothing "big" to worry about, yet.īoth parts are perfect and work very well. This just isn't the case in Chapter 1, where you explore the colony and think about which camp to join. Every Chapter afterwards is just the logically next step you (as the nameless hero) should do, being counseled / instructed by the various NPCs. Starting with Chapter 2, you always know what to do next. It's just not important enough.Īnd in Gothic, once the story gets flowing, it is very much a single story line that pulls you with it. I wouldn't stop to help a small farmer at the way-side any longer, that's for sure. Why would you do anything but the main quest anyways (from a character standpoint), once you get to it and know what to do next? Yes, the game itself is much shorter than Gothic II, but imo that isn't necessarily bad.
